Top 10 Desserts on Maui
Lots and lots of research went into this Maui Top 10 List and it might be one of our favorite lists yet! With so many sweet treats to choose from on Maui, we have narrowed down our Top 10 to the Maui desserts we just can’t live without.
Hula Pie
If you haven’t had a Hula Pie, have you even been to Maui?! Hula Pie might be the most famous and recognized dessert on all Maui. Hula Pie is served at all TS Restaurants which include Kimo’s, Duke’s, Hula Grill and Leilani’s. This GIANT slice of dessert is meant to be shared and a “must do”! Hula Pie is made of macadamia nut ice cream stacked HIGH on a cookie crust. It is then topped with a layer of cool chocolate fudge, lots of whipped cream, hot chocolate fudge and a sprinkle of toasted macadamia nuts. Go ahead, treat yourself! |
Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
Let us state the simple truth – there is no better shave ice in the world than that at Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice. You have had a snow cone on the mainland? Sorry, no competition. Nothing compares. Ululani’s awards are endless. Year after year, Ululani continues to win the title of the “best shaved ice on the island.” Their homemade syrups and creative add-ons are nothing short of heavenly. With dozens of flavors, and premium island made ice cream to add to the bottom, it is tough to refrain from that second helping! Try their “No Ka Oi,” a combination of coconut, mango and lilikoi. Add Roselani’s premium macadamia nut ice-cream, and toasted coconut to the top. Or, try their “Haleakala,” a creation of coconut and leche flavor, topped with sweetened condensed cream. With over six locations on the island, you are never far away from one of the best treats on Maui. Two of their locations are on Front Street in Lahaina. |
Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop
Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop offers some of the most decadent, housemade pies on the island and is one of the happiest places you can visit. Their heavenly pies include Coconut Cream, Macnut Chocolate, Banana Cream Pie, Olowalu Lime, Apple Crumb and SO much more! These individual pies are not only instant Instagram stars, but are hands down one of our favorite places on all Maui for dessert. With such a large variety of available pies, you will be sure to leave with more than one! Leoda’s Kitchen also offers breakfast and lunch, including such dishes as Chicken Pot Pie, Reubens and Baked Mac & Cheese. Be sure to stop by Leoda’s on your way home from the other side of the island. Grab a bite, and take a pie home for later on! |
T Komoda`s Malasadas
If you ask any local on Maui where the very best place to get Malasada’s would be, they would tell you T Komoda Store and Bakery. If you aren’t familiar with Malasadas, they are Hawaii’s form of a doughnut- but better! Malasada’s are a Portuguese doughnut but without the hole. They can be filled with a variety of fillings including haupia (coconut), guava, chocolate and more. T Komoda Store and Bakery is located up country in historic Makawao Town and on any given morning you will find a line out the door of hungry customers eager to purchase their famous, warm Malasadas. A trip to T Komoda Store and Bakery is a trip worth taking. |
Tasaka Guri-Guri Shop
What is guri-guri you may ask? We aren’t really sure ourselves but this sweet concoction holds a stature here on the island which is nothing short of legendary. Every local who was born and raised on Maui was also raised with with a deep, deep love for this sweet, cold concoction. Guri-guri is a cross between ice cream and sherbet, with the recipe being a family secret. Two flavors are made daily and include strawberry and pineapple. After all these years you can still get two scoops for just $1.50! You can find this sweet treat at Tasaka Guri-Guri which is located in Kahului at the Maui Mall. This mom-and-pop shop has been around for over 50 years and will get you in and out in no time! They only take cash so come prepared and get ready to experience a Maui dessert legend! |
Hula Cookies
Hula Cookies serve some of the most scrumptious and unique cookie combinations out there. Hula Cookies is located at Ma’alaea Village and serve both warm cookies, ice cream and other sweet treats. These gourmet cookies are made fresh, and use only the freshest ingredients. Try their Pineapple Dream, our favorite cookie, which is made of pineapple, ginger and macadamia nuts. Other great cookies include the Coconut Bliss, Caramel Delight and Kona Coffee Lovers. Want to take your warm cookie to the next level? Hula Cookies makes the most delicious ice cream sandwiches which are made from a variety of their homemade ice cream and cookies. You can also purchase their ice cream sandwiches at the Honolua Store in the Kapalua Resort. We recommend letting it sit for a few minutes to get soft. |

Chocolate Birthday Bibingka Cake- Tin Roof
One bite of this chewy, colorful cake will have you feeling like a kid again! Tin Roof has quickly become one of the most popular eateries on Maui, with celebrity chef Sheldon Simeon at the reins. Sheldon shot to fame with his appearance on Top Chef and finished as a finalist and title of “Fan Favorite.” Today you can stop by the Tin Roof for his spin on Hawaii local dishes, and for his famous Chocolate Birthday Bibingka Cake. There’s a reason why it’s the only dessert he serves. The cake consists of butter mochi, chocolate butter mochi, a frosting made of peanut butter, raw sugar sprinkles and POP ROCKS.
