Be sure to put some time aside to visit the Maui Ocean Center. The center has over sixty outdoor and indoor exhibits designed to educate visitors about our Pacific waters, as well as about the Hawaiian culture.

This beautiful aquarium features a 750,000 gallon tank with a walk-through tunnel; it is filled with sharks, sting rays, and a large assortment of tropical fish. The aquarium also features a turtle lagoon and a surge zone, a shallow reef and open ocean exhibits.

Rainy weather is the perfect excuse to enjoy some of Maui’s wonderful live entertainment. From traditional Hawaiian music to hula performances, the island offers a variety of cultural experiences indoors. The Slack Key Guitar Show at the Napili Kai Beach Resort is a longtime favorite, featuring the beautiful sounds of traditional Hawaiian slack key guitar in an intimate setting. In Lahaina, the Cannery Mall also offers free hula shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., along with keiki (children’s) hula shows on weekends at 1 p.m.—a fun and easy way to experience Hawaiian culture while staying dry.

You won’t see many rainy days, but when you do, why not consider the Atlantis Submarine. After all, the gorgeous fish below could give a hoot about the rain!

Atlantis offers guests the opportunity to ride on a real submarine! Explore our island`s waters on this forty-eight passenger submarine that can reach depths of 100 meters or more. This state-of-the-art vessel is not only quiet and comfortable, but lends guests the opportunity to see into a world that is a mystery to most of us. Atlantis offers different submarine rides, and package deals for those wishing to save on other activities.

A rainy day is the perfect opportunity to explore Maui’s rich history and culture. The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum offers a fascinating look into Maui’s plantation era and the island’s sugar industry that shaped much of its history. Another wonderful stop is Hale Ho?ike?ike at the Bailey House, where visitors can learn about Hawaiian history, view cultural artifacts, and explore beautiful grounds filled with native plants and historic buildings.

If you prefer to spend a rainy afternoon browsing, Maui has wonderful shopping and gallery experiences to enjoy indoors. Stroll through the oceanfront boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries at Whalers Village in Kaanapali, or visit the elegant Shops at Wailea, known for its upscale stores, local artwork, and beautiful open-air setting. It’s a relaxing way to spend a rainy day while discovering unique pieces and island treasures.

Escape Rooms are all the rage, and the Maui Escape Room located in Ka’anapali will not disappoint! This fun-filled interactive game is perfect for all ages, and puts a Maui twist on each escape room. Solve puzzles, riddles and clues as you try to escape your room with your team. A session generally takes around an hour.

If it is raining in one area of Maui, that doesn’t mean it is raining all over the island. A little bit of rain is a great excuse to get out there and explore a different part of the island. Head up to Haleakala National Park to take in the awe-inspiring sights of the colorful crater and vistas, or head to up country Maui to visit the Ali’i Lavender Farm, Ulupalakua Vineyards, Surfing Goat Dairies or Kula Farms (just to name a few).
