Top 10 Places for Live Music on Maui

It’s hard to top live, local music while in that tropical setting Maui affords. Maui is home to some of the best musicians anywhere; there are countless locations where you can take in a live music performance. We have highlighted some of the best live music venues in the Lahaina area, and, those within, or nearby the Kapalua Resort.

The Aloaloa Lounge has been named the Best Lobby Lounge on Maui by the readers of Maui No Ka ‘Oi Magazine. This beautiful lounge is located at the Ritz Carlton on the Kapalua Resort and is one of our favorite locations for cocktails and live music.

Here you can enjoy gorgeous ocean views, handcrafted cocktails, light dinning, desserts and live music from Tuesday to Saturday from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Hana Hou Bar at the Montage Hotel Kapalua

Located at poolside at the Montage Hotel, the Hana Hou Bar is a perfect spot to enjoy a drink, and, some great food while taking in the stunning ocean and island views. The outdoor bar is just a quick walk up the pathway from Kapalua Bay; it is not only a full bar, but offers hamburgers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and other edible delights, as well as a keiki menu.

From 4 pm to 6 pm they also offer live music. There can be no better place to end the day.

One of the most romantic and breathtaking locations to eat dinner is at Merriman’s, located at the point, on Kapalua Bay. Merriman`s was recently named one of the "Top 10 Travelers Choice Restaurants" in the United States by Tripadvisor.

It is no secret that Merriman’s is one of our favorite locations at which to dine on Maui. Not only do we love their award-winning food and mai tais, but there is the added bonus of live Hawaiian music every night.

We can’t think of any Hawaiian musician greater than George Kahumoku Jr.  George Kahumoku Jr is a legend when it comes to Hawaiian music, even winning 4 Grammys for his work. This legendary master slack-key guitarist performs weekly shows at the Napili Kai Beach Resort, just a short walk or drive from the Kapalua Ridge Villas.

Each week the show features not only George but other Hawaiian musicians and singers, offering up the ukulele, the steel guitar and that lovely and haunting Hawaiian falsetto, a form of singing unique to Hawaii (and which, some assert, inspired the American cowboy’s yodel).

The Sea House is one of our favorite restaurants on all Maui. It is located on Napili Beach, just a short walk from The Ridge Villas. Here, you will find one of the last “old Hawaiian” restaurants. The Sea House sits on the beach of Napili Bay, and provides an ambiance that cannot be found anywhere else on the island.

This charming and exotic open-air restaurant, also offers live, Hawaiian music from 6 pm to 8 pm, nightly.

Down the Hatch, and Breakwall Shave Ice, have quickly become one of the most popular restaurants, and shave ice spots, in Lahaina. The two hot spots are located in the same location at The Wharf Cinema Center Shops on Front Street.

Down the Hatch is open for breakfast, lunch, Happy Hour, dinner and late night. They have been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and serve fantastic food with an even better Happy Hour. 

This is one of the best locations on all Maui for live music. Down the Hatch offers live music at various times throughout the day, so be sure to check their website for their daily schedule.

Fleetwood’s on Front Street

Fleetwood’s on Front Street is owned and operated by legendary musician, Mick Fleetwood. Not only is Fleetwood’s famous for their award winning food, but also for their sought-after ocean views and rocking live music!

Their rooftop bar offers guests unobstructed ocean views, and a happy hour that does not disappoint. Every “Aloha Friday” happy hour starts at 11am and goes to 4 pm. Be sure to check their website for their most up-to-date live music schedule.

Though Hula Grill can get crowded during certain times of the year, there is just something so special about this oceanfront eatery that it’s worth the wait (if it comes to that).

Hula Grill sits right off of Kaanapali Beach and serves up some of the best island dishes, and, people watching as a bonus!

We love sitting out in the Barefoot Bar where tables are perched on the sand.  Diners are accompanied by live, Hawaiian music and hula dancing.

No trip to Hula Grill is complete without a slice of their famous Hula Pie!

Cool Cat Café

The Cool Cat Café is located on Front Street in Lahaina and boasts being Maui’s only old-time 50’s diner. They have been named “Best Burger on Maui” for 5 years straight!

Here, you feel as though you have stepped back in time with their cozy diner booths and retro 50’s décor.

The Cool Cat Café makes for the perfect destination after a day of exploring Front Street. Come for their burgers, tropical drinks, great Happy Hour and nightly live music from 8 pm to 10:30 pm.

The Dirty Monkey is known to have some the best live music performances on all Maui. There is always something going on at this Front Street eatery so it is best to check their online calendar for the latest on their live music performances. Big names in Hawaii’s music industry frequently visit the Dirty Monkey and offer up every possible genre out there.

The Dirty Monkey has also been named the Best Whiskey Bar on Maui, and has a fantastic happy hour as well. If you are looking to watch a “big game” while on vacation, this is the place to go as it is also one of the top sports bars on Maui.

The Dirty Monkey serves lunch and dinner daily from 12 pm to 1:30 am.
